Pioneer DVR-X122

This looks like Pioneer's external 112 using USB 2.0. Does anyone have any more information as to how well it operates? Where can you purchase it?

Here's the product link:

Hmm, I haven't seen it in any Brick & Mortar stores. But then again, I haven't been looking too hard.

Best Buy has it online:

I wouldn't be surprised if they already have it in stores too. If not, they probably will soon.

What would be better the Pioneer branded 112 with enclosure using USB 2.0 or a setup that supports USB 2.0 and Firewire like this:

It really depends on whether or not you need FireWire. Looking at the case on Meritline's website, it appears to be of nicer quality than the one Pioneer is using. I would just make sure that they've tested it with the 112 to see if it will work at its rated speeds. There are still a lot of enclosures out there that can't handle 16x reading/writing speeds, let alone 18x.

I saw it at my local BB yesterday. Looks pretty cool. I'll be tempted when it goes on sale, as they all do, but I'd really prefer an internal SATA 212, if anyone ever releases cross-flashable firmware to get DVD-RAM...

(oops, just kept reading and found another thread mentioning it appears the crossflashable 212 firmware's out. :) )
