Plextor & 321 Studios?

Postby steelly on Sat Feb 21, 2004 8:23 am

I have read lately that the Plextor 708A isn't compatible with certain products that are available at 321 Studios. Is anyone out there copying their DVD's (backups) with DVD X Copy Platinum? What are your results?
Any Problems? Does this program actually compress the film onto one disk? Thanks for any replies; I am researching the best back-up DVD copying software that is available, so any information that pertains to the Plextor 708A in this area is greatly appreciated.

I've tried it, and works fine with my 708, I prefer Dvd Decrypter for ripping and then I use Dvd Shrink for getting rid of fluff and once it's done Nero does the burn..

Why do you even use dvd decrypter, dvdshrink will rip and shrink to your harddrive and nero will them burn all in one step.

Plextor & DVDXCopy

Postby wpilgri on Sun Feb 22, 2004 11:28 pm

I'm new to the DVD game so bear with me.

I just got a Plextor 708A and I am trying to backup the Spiderman DVD using DVD X Copy v4. Should it take 40 minutes @ 100% CPU utilization to read the entire DVD? I have a P4 with 512 MB of ram. The math using a read at 4X or 8X says it should be much less time?

Do you have Speed Read enabled? Holding down the eject button for a few seconds until it blinks, putting in the disk and then ripping? Also, DVDXCopy has never ripped at full speed for me on any drive. Try DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink.

I have a 708a and when I tried to use X Copy it gave me nothing but problems. It hard locked my PC (Asus P4C800, P4@3.5Ghz, 512MB RAM, single DMA enabled IDE drive) several times during the reading and encoding process. I eventually gave up. I think the proprietary IDE driver it installs doesent get along very well with the PX708. I would suggest switching to DVDShrink. It is just as easy to use and produces equal or better output without the big warning signs and best has the feature of all - its free.
