Plextor 708 doesn't like Ritek DVD-R G04?

Postby pika2000 on Wed Feb 18, 2004 2:23 am

I heard good things about Ritek that I bought some Ritek DVD-R G04 4x media from meritline. So far, I used 4 disc. When I tried burning them with my plextor(latest 1.04 firmware) @ 4x, on 2 of 4, Nero says Power calibration error, and I had to burn those at 2X. The other 2 were succesfully burned @ 4x, but a strange thing happened on one of them. When I looked at the data layer (purple) on one of them, I thought I saw a speck of dust. I wiped it, and it revealed a darker purple spot....

So I find myself really disappointed with these Ritek G04. Of course, I have only used 4 media, but I had no problems with BeAll DVD-R 4x media, and only produce 1 coaster out of several burns from Memorex CMC DVD+R 4x. I read a few threads down about Ritek B/C grade in the US. I guess this could be true. :(

Well, if it works for hoxlund, it'll work for anyone else, so no more comment is needed, but I will anyways. I've put a smaller amount of G04's through my PX-708A (around 45-50) and each one has come out perfectly at 4x.

Well, I tried 3 more media. 2 of them refused to be burned. Nero reported Tracking error or something, but the 3rd one burned fine @ 4x. Maybe I got a bad batch? Time to see if meritline's 60 day money back is true.
