@ hoxlund

I would look for TLA #0203 if possible. Seems to be the best revision of the drive from what I've read and experienced.

I've had no problems with TYG02 with my 716s.

TLA #03XX seems to perfom bether with CD results and comparing with tla#02XX Dvd burn quality is more or less equally.

Has for SATA version, some problems have been reported mainly related with speed performance.

But we cannot forget one thing. Usually people tend to report errors or problems while good drives tend to be reported less.

I guess if you're into one of this drives you should get one and cross your fingers...

Best Buy carries TY under the Fuji brand name usually in DVD+R but sometimes in DVD-R. Just look for "Made in Japan" on the packaging.

Upgraded my firmware to 1.07. Mind you the difference may be negligable over a short period of time, but I found a few interesting things with 1.07.

Testing FujiFilm DVD+R Taiyo Yuden at 16X with Plextools 2.23. The burn gets to about 4GB...and the speed kicks down to 12X

Testing Verbatim 16X DVD+R Mitsubishi Chemical with Plextools 2.23 ....burn gets to around 4.2 GB and kicks down to 12x.

Flashed back to firmware 1.06

Testing the same FujiFilm at 16X, Plextools 2.23...burn got as high as 15.79X around 4.5 GB before kicking down to 12X...gigarec

Testing the same Verbatim 16X DVD+R , Plextools 2.23...got as high as 16.1X and never kicked down to 12X.

Did burns with the same disks in Nero DVD Speed...and tested the quality...TY was Very Good, Inner....Good Middle layer and Good Outer Layer...1.07

Verbatim was Excellent inner layer...Very Good middle layer and good outer layer.

Same exact readings on firmware 1.06

This in combination with jitter problems that many are having at www.cdfreaks.com with the 1.07 firmware and CD-R...I am sticking to 1.06 until a better firmware than 1.07 comes out. In addition...1.07 is supposed to impact CD writing quality...for most at CD Freaks...they felt that it degraded

Bob

BTW...my original TLA: 0203
