Plextor PW-X40A+Sony52XCDRom+W2KPro No worky!

Why is it that my new Plextor 40X CDRW IDE drive will not work with my Sony 52x CDRom drive? I've tried the Plextor as master and Sony as Slave on the 2nd IDE Channel and the reverse, and either way, the PC will not post, beep or boot...nothing, no video, just the PSU, fans, LAN LED, Power LED.

When I use either drive by itself, the PC boots fine. I tried new cables, 40 & 80 conductor, checked the Slave/Master jumpers, etc...

Right now, I have the Sony CDRom as Slave to my HDD on IDE 0 and the Plextor CDRw by itself as Master on the IDE 1, and all is working well.

I would prefer to have the CD drives as Master/Slave on IDE 1.
Any ideas? Do some optical drives just not "get along"?

I'll have to get a new CDRom to test this.

Problem solved! I switched the Sony CDRom with a LiteOn 48x CDrom as slave to my Plextor PX-W4012a (master), and all is well again. It seems that the Plextor just didn't "get along" with the Sony for some reason.
(don't know why). So if anyone else encounters a similar problem, try using a different make/model of CDrom. Thanks to all those who replied.
