i had the same problem of not being able to run the firmware updates a while back, and Lite-On told me to stop all running software, such as
Nero's IN-CD program, DLA, Norton Anti-Virus, or any program that uses the cd-rom drive/burner such as MusicMatch, Windows Media Player if they are running when you try to update the firmware, any of these program can and will cause the cd firmware update not to install
Hope this information will help those who have had problems installing the firmware updates
