plextor 4824A buffer under run question

Postby slodmj on Sun Feb 08, 2004 12:29 am

HI all:
Question for ya:
Recently, my plextor has slowed down to a stop while burning the final track or two. The buffer underrun appears to handle the situation. It happens with Nero, Fuerio, and Roxio. The cdr doesn't seem to be affected - it sounds fine. Any ideas?
thanks

This happens frequently on all of the Plextor burners that burn 48x and 52x speeds. I have tried the Plextor 48x and 52x premium burners. They both slow down a lot near the end. But, the discs are fine.

Depends---

If you're burning a full disc, and it slows down near the end, it probably is a media problem. The drive has to slow down to guarantee the best write.
Try using Nero CD Speed and "create data disc" from the test menu. It should run a smooth linear curve to the end of the disc. If it drops off at/near the end, the media is poor quality

If you're burning a couple of tracks, and it slows down on the last one, it's something in your system.

Also, the drive slows down to write lead-in and TOC at the end of the write if you're doing track at once.
