cdrlabs.pricegrabber search not extensive enough ???

Postby dodecahedron on Wed Feb 11, 2004 9:24 pm

taken from here: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 505#100505 (thanks vsekh):

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getp ... 25f220cd67

(note: this isn't the link vsekh gave, but when clicking on the link he gave this is where it arrives. there's a redirection).

searching on my own from http://cdrlabs.pricegrabber.com/ :

http://cdrlabs.pricegrabber.com/search_ ... 25f220cd67

as far as i can tell, the links are identical excpect for the www in one, cdrlabs in the other.
so why are the search results different?

i was thinking of getting some from Buy.com, and wanted to go through http://cdrlabs.pricegrabber.com (get CDRLabs that small commision), but it doesn't appear there!

Ian, what's up with that ?

Here ya' go:
http://cdrlabs.pricegrabber.com/search_ ... aa93187ab2

Just had to click the "Compare All 10 Merchants ($9.99 - $15.81) >" button on bottom.

How much comission does CDRLabs get? Enough to make a small difference? It wouldn't hurt me any to go through the cdrlabs.pricegrabber when I buy from companies listed on there, keep in mind I buy quite a bit. Just checking my books I pre-ordered @ Amazon, cause if thier listed on there, I'll cancel em' and re-order em' through the link.

EDIT: They don't list books, LOL.

thanks aw.
yeah, that link adds the /fd=1/ into the URL. and now the listings are the same.
still, when doing www.pricegrabber, even without the /fd=1/ in the URL it lists all of them. why the different behaviour?

@Ian:
does CDRLabs indeed get a small commision if i click the buy.com link in the cdrlabs.pricegrabber search page rather than the www.pricegrabber page?

clicking either gets me to the same place (same URL eventually). but doesn it know i came from CDRLabs?

You'd have to ask Dan about the pricegrabber stuff. I don't know all the details. I think we get a certain percentage of all purchases made through there.

I just noticed this thread. I was also wondering why the cdrlabs link only shows half of the merchants. Next time I'll remember to click on view all merchants so that it shows all of them before I post the link. I do want cdrlabs to get a commission when possible. :)
