burner won't recognize audio cd for NO reason

Postby daveman_84 on Sat Feb 21, 2004 2:34 am

Very strage problem. I'm not a newb and I know what I'm doing but this one baffles me. I'm trying to rip a CD (Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere) and the burner won't recognize it. I use this external burner as my usual one and it rips everything else effortlessly so it's not the burner. So I tried it in my laptop burner -- same thing, it acts like there's no CD in there. It's factory-pressed and in mint condition. Stereo system plays it perfectly but computer simply doesn't know its there. What the hell?

It sounds like the CD is copy-protected,use IsoBuster or CloneCD to rip.

It's definitely not copy-protected. The disc is about 10 years old and I know for a fact there isn't any on there. Any other ideas?

I've been having this problem lately with XP home too: It just never appears in My Computer.

But I find Exact Audio Copy, Clone CD & Alcohol 120% has no problem finding the disc and accessing it.

BTW: Holy Shit that's a good looking disc!

I didn't know that Cinnamon Girl, Down by the River & Cowgirl in the Sand were from the same LP.

Think I'll have to dig out Decade and give her a listen.

But also EAC or any of my other ripping programs won't recognize it. It's not that it can't copy it, it just doesn't know its there. What makes it even wierder is I have ripped about 5 other Neil CD's (same company, same style of disc, probably same plant for all I know) and they have ripped fine. I don't know what makes this one special. I'll try it in a friends computer tonight and report back.

Despite the disc is not copy protected, try to rip it with AnyDVD loaded.
