Pacific Digital has been stuffing Roxio in their boxes.
At least with the BTC and NEC drives.

Ian, have you bought a lot of stuff at OfficeMax?

I have a long list of rebates submitted but not received. This weekend I am going to print everything out, take it to my local OfficeMax, and get the cash in person.

OfficeMax's rebates seem to disappear into a black hole.

No, not for a long time. I try not to buy anything with a rebate.

I have about 10 to 15 rebates through OfficeMax over the past 3-4 months. None are for more than $25. It takes them a long time to fulfill rebates. I track them on their websites. A couple were rejected for things like missing UPC, which was included. They have a resubmission address and I sent them a copy of everything with a cover letter. Fortunately I copy everything before I send them in and keep a spreadsheet of all the rebates until I receive the check.

Now if Fuji would fulfill their rebates. I have about five pending rebates over 3 months through them at about three different retailers.

I've been thinking about getting a NEC as the writing quality appears to blow away my 811 which is inconsitent with anything over 4x speed. Might have to head over to the 2 close ones and see what they have in stock, do a price reduction after Sunday.

I've bought quite some stuff from OfficeMax before. I use this freeware to track all the rebates I've submitted. It is actually pretty good, since it even calculates the postage into the statistics. Yes, making copies of all submissions is highly advised. I only had one encounter where OM said they never received my submission. After scanning & emailing my copy over, they promptly sent the check.

I'm going to be in-line on Sunday before the store opens to find that Pacific Digital. :D

Dodecahedron,
I picked up the Pacific Digital ( Lite-On 851 Serial # 4303xxxxx- white bezel ) a few weeks ago at Office Max. It came bundled with Sonic 4.0 and Power DVD.
I haven't used the Sonic software so I can't comment on how well it works.. I hope to find the time to try everything out this weekend.

Well they didn't have any of the NEC drives at the 2 close to me. they had one with like a 29 serial so I didn't have a clue what it was. The box claimed a mach8 multi format and was only 4x minus so it could have been anything. The other store hadn't broken open all of their new shipment yet and said to come back saturday night to see what they got. They will do a price match on early purchases so if they do get any I'm gettin one.

Ian,

How do you tell if your getting a Benq drive or a Cyberdrive?

Has anyone seen a Nec 2500a's in the Pacific Digital product?
That would be cool to get the Nec drive for that cheap.

Can you use the Benq firmware for the Kypermedia drive or do they change the id string?

How do you tell if the Benq drive is one that can be updated with the dual format firmware?

This link says http://tinyurl.com/2vdpl [Link edited by UALOneKPlus to shorten the screen. For long urls, please use tinyurl.com or makeashorterlink.com.]

"This version DVD-R/-RW supported(Dual) firmware only available for dual firmware (B3x7 series) drive, not available for DW800A (B2x7 series) drive."

I don't understand. Is there two DW800A's? They don't have another 8x burner besides the DW800A.

I have. However, it was packaged as an 8x8 drive. I'm not sure if it has the same SKU as the 8x4.

Thanks for the link to the program. Holy cow though, the program is over 5 MB!! I wonder what kind of spyware they're packing in that thing.

I use Excel and it works great. Can you tell me if this program is a lot better than Excel?

Ian,

Thank you. Do you know the answer to the benq dual firmware question?

dodecahedron,

Thank you. Those links did help to know which one is a Cyberdrive and which one is a Benq.

Does anyone know the answer to my question about the benq dual firmware?

Thank you.

Yeah, it didn't occur to me the file was that big. I regularly scan for spyware, so it hasn't been a problem. If you have all the formulas, functions, macros, etc. set up in Excel, then it might be easier to keep using it. However, this program does make it easy for anyone who just want to input information and let it do the rest. Excel is more "powerful," whereas Rebate Rebate! is easier.

Just got back from OM with a spankin new NEC 2500 :) I hope it's as good as most people say. I'll get the price match and rebates tomorow while every one else is killing themselves to get a burner.
The serial was a 41a something so I said I'd take it and opened it in the lot.
They also had some BTC drives and a bunch of the khypermedia drives at the 2 stores I checked. They also had a LiteOn 851 with a 42 serial number if anyone wants one of those in a Pacific Digital box too. The PD boxes all saymach8 and the only way to tell what you get is the serial.
By the way the SKU for the PD drives is 20678401

My Officemax only had Pacific Digital drives and they were all Btc. I wanted to get an Nec, but that's ok. I would order online, but you don't know what you will get.

Dartman,

What software did it come with? Was there only one Nec drive at the Officemax you went to?

I bet the Nec drives are hard to find. You can find the Btc drives easily though :(

They probably had a few as he said they had 18 boxes full. He said he wasn't going to break open every box just to check but the second drive he came out with had the magic serial so I bought it. The first was the BTC. The first store had a bnunch of 851 drives and Kypermedia but she didn't look at more then one of each.
It has one disk that says Pacific Digital DVD burner bundle 3.3. It has WinDVD and Roxio on it and mabe a few other things. I haven't looked at it yet.
It also has one IDE 2 drive normal cable and a audio cable, no blank media. For a normal price of 199 they could have included one.
A freind said he saw the new 812 over at Best Buy today also for 119 with rebates if anyone wants to try one.
You have a 14 day return with OM
