Asus E616p1 dvd rom drive doesn't work

Postby Antares on Sun Mar 07, 2004 11:27 am

Windows Xp Pro recognizes my dvd rom drive as a cd-rom and it doesn't read any sort of disk.(cd-rom;cd-audio and dvd)
In security mode it seems to work properly.how can i solve this problem?I've already checked the cable conections and all seems to be correct. The malfunctioning drive is set as secondary master and my dvd-rw drive is set as secondary slave(this drive doesn't show any tipe of problem). Please reply A.S.A.P.

Test if the bad drive works as a master without slave.

try uninstalling the secondary IDE channel, then reboot.
try switching the master-slave settings of the drives.
try moving one of the drives to the primary channel, and put the other on secondary master or slave.

make sure BIOS detects the drives correctly

make sure DMA is enabled for all drives.
