Lite-On 812s - is it out yet?

Postby roks on Tue Mar 02, 2004 8:59 am

Hi all,

I have decided to wait for the liteon 812s as it has the high speed cd writing capability.

Most likely I'll get this drive....after I hear some good feed back.

Any ideas as to when this will be available in the UK?

thanks.

The early feedback has been "mixed" at best. A few insiders are saying that the 851 is a better drive.

The LDW-851S is a more mature product. It has already had numerous firmware updates fixing problems...

I just got my SOHW-812S from newegg.com last night, still haven't put it through the pace yet.

Doesn't appear that Lite-On's own ByteType utility works with this particular drive.

I should've went with the 851S.

you mean BookType.
hopefully there'll be a new version soon to support your drive.

To be fair the 851 seems to have matured into quite a good writer. I've found it to be a little bit picky but it isn't too bad.

Aye but 451s can be clocked up to the 851s :)

And I'm sure that if my overclocked 451-851 is media friendly then so will a genuine 851 be.
