Charter blocking IRC

Postby Ian on Sat Apr 10, 2004 10:44 pm

Gotta love Charter. In an attempt to prevent the Phatbot worm, they've blocked port 6667. Stupid tards don't realize most servers use other ports like 6668.

Grrr.. just ranting.

Indeed they are tards for not realizing alternate IRC ports; although let's be realistic, if Charter blocked all popular IRC ports (let's say 6660-6670 and 7000) then I bet they would have half their customers complaining. Having 6667 disabled is just a minor inconvenience. Truth be told, more people should get used to using a port other than 6667 for IRC. Since it is the default IRC port, a lot of newbie users connect with that port, thus others on that port can experience lag, most considerably on large networks. Don't get hosed, use an alternate port.
