I messed up my burner, help?

I was burning audio cd's today in Nero. I started one and before I thought it actually began I hit cancel. Apparently the lead-in had already started. It sat there for 4 minutes with the light flickering, but not doing anything. So I manually rebooted my box (Windows XP)

Now, the drive (MSI 52/32/52) won't see disc's as being inserted. The drive still comes up in Nero, and in Powerdesk. But I can't get it to burn, or recognize media in it at all.

I tried shutting the pc down and unplugging the power cable from the drive, but it's still not working.

any ideas how I can fix this?

have you tried going into windows device manager, uninstalling the drive, reboot, let windows install the drive again?
