Repeating quiet sound from Sony CRX320E

Postby Sa[v]aGe on Fri Jul 23, 2004 1:02 pm

Is it OK for me to hear a quiet repeating sound from the drive every time there is a disc spinning inside. It's like a clock but faster. Everything else seems fine.

Sounds like a problem with the mechanism. If it's under warranty I would like into getting it replaced before I had a problem.

I forgot to mention that I can hear this sound only when the disc is spinning very slow. As soon as the drive starts spinning faster the sound goes away and everything sounds normal (something like a jet ;-). I'm just kidding. If we're talking about loud you should hear my Teac cd-w552e.

I've come to the conclusion that the sound goes away when the drive reads or writes a disc. So when there is a disc inside and the drive isn't using the head (just the disc is spinning) I can hear the mentioned sound. It looks like the head is doing something inside in spare time.
Can any Sony CRX320E or LiteOn SOHC-5232K users tell me whether they can hear the sound or not?
