CDN: NEC 2510a (Dual Layer)$94.97 after $40 MIR

Postby Spazmogen on Sat Jul 24, 2004 9:21 pm

HERE

It's listed as a Mad Dog: Megastor Dual Layer DVD Burner / 2.4x DVD+R DL / 8x4x12x DVD±RW / 32x16x40x CD-RW

Not the fastest drive out there, but a good price for a DL drive.

The user reviews @ Tiger indicate its a rebranded NEC 2510a drive.

Modded/RPC1 firmware can be found HERE

rebate is $40 CDN. Tiger is catching on to the exchange bonus we were getting for a while

Looks like a Mad Dog rebate, Spaz. Add $40 Canadian to the $95.

Disappointedly yours,
Slim

Tigerdirect is *WELL KNOWN* for being bad with rebates and customer service.

Their purchaser is also a stupid head... but he's in Florida so I should cut him some slack I suppose

Well, lets put this into perspective (a consumer's perspective):

The American Tiger.com has a shitty reputation about MIR's.
The Canadian has a good reputation (so far).
(Sorry Dolphin, but you're a competitor of Tiger's).

I've received both MIR's from Tigerdirect.ca within 5 weeks.

The one time I had to call a CSR, they were local (Toronto) and very efficient.

This MIR is mailed to a CDN company in Fonthill, Ontario. They also handle the box tops & popsickle stick type of promotions...they are not Tiger or Mad Dog. They are a contracted company for rebates.

But my burner is just over 1 year old, and I'm not upgrading anytime soon.

I've ordered 10 times from Tigerdirect.ca since 4/25/2003.
In every order, my items shipped either same day or next day.
Hardly a bad company in my mind.

NCIX.com seems to be far worse than Tiger for customer Service. I USED to buy from NCIX. But no more. Futureshop (B & M stores) are not much ahead of NCIX right now, IMO.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Well, I'm not going to say I'm not biased in this... I *AM* a competitor of Tigerdirect.ca, but I'm also a competitor of www.blankmedia.ca and I praise them all the time

My main issues with Tigerdirect are from my personal experience dealing with their personal (sales people are mainly friendly... I deal with "other" personal...) and all the complaints I see from people on Redflagdeals.com.

Also, Tigerdirect brings in their products through a lot of grey market sources, which limits MIR support, and there have been cases where Tigerdirect has offered rebates on items that they knew FULL WELL would not be honoured by the manufacturer because the item was not purchased through official channels. This sort of thing just pisses me off in general.

I've never had so much as a second look when returning stuff to NCIX, so they beat out any computer store I've worked with in the past so far. Although I'll admit again being a little biased in favour of NCIX, I have nothing to do with their hardware sales/purchasing/whatever, and that is what I'm talking about here.

Yuppers. I still think TD is good.

10 orders and counting.

I base my opinion on my experience with the company.

All orders shipped correctly & both rebates back in a timely fashion.

I'm a happy client.
