Optodisc DVD-R 4x - Gold vs. Silver discs

Postby BurninMan921 on Tue Jul 27, 2004 6:48 pm

Ok, any diff. between the gold vs. silver discs? They'll be burned in an NEC 2500A, Herrie firmware. Burn quality matters over all else (yeah yeah, use TY, blah blah blah. Need cheap+good here!).

I bet I know a certian Ritek-hater that'll answer this one

I better get to it before him. Get G04's. Seriously though, G04's are pretty good.

hrm... not sure I can publically comment on this now... I have to double check some of my information. I've perked a little too much unwanted attention lately :-?

Riteks? Good? Surely you jest!

Seriously, aren't they a bit like CMC; ie, VERY variable quality (from good to plain horrendous)?

Maybe back in the day when 2x DVD-Rs were the norm but now (with the small exception of Ritek's first 8x DVD-+R batch) Ritek is almost always golden ;)

Umm, current drive reviews have shown that Ritek's 8x DVD-Rs are far from what they could be. They don't work nearly as well as the Ritek G04 did... which now appear to be out of production. For those interested, Ritek has *JUST* informed me that they will continue manufacturing 4x DVD-Rs (M02 code I suspect) until the end of Summer (~September).

If I get the G04's, it looks like I'll have to get 'em from Meritline
Everyone else either doesn't say they're G04's, or they show them as the ones mentioned in dolphinius_rex's sig link.

What do you mean by the gold ones? The tops are a golden colour? I don't think I've seen those before. I have a pack of silver Optodisc 4x discs (OPTODISCR004) I can test for you.
Edit: You mean these?

I would recomend these: http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=vi ... &s_cata=88

They *SHOULD* be G04. I don't think Meritline's word means sh*t, remember the whole PioData 8x TYG02 and RITEKG05 disaster?
