Ritek G04 now on the way out

Postby dolphinius_rex on Mon Jul 26, 2004 8:24 pm

Just a warning to all the Ritek G04 lovers out there (you know who you are) that recent shipments of Ritek 4x DVD-Rs have been confirmed as having the M02 code instead of the G04 code. I'm not sure what the quality implications are, or the overclockability is like on these discs, but I thought I'd warn people to stock up now if they plan on doing it!

The first reference I've found was here:
http://www.ncix.com/forums/index.php?mo ... #msg541131

I'm sure there are more discs out there too!
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

heh heh, I like that "You get what you pay for.... unless you pay for Maxell and get Ritek's" :lol:

That's REALLY old stock actually... since Maxell hasn't dealt with Ritek for 4x DVD-Rs for quite some time. I think it was quality variations that put them off. Maxell switched the line to 100% Maxell made only media... and then later OEM'd to Taiyo Yuden so they could focus on manufacturing 8x media in large volumes before going retail with it.
