NEC ND-3500 : 16x burner with DVD+R DL 4x

Postby ItalianJob on Tue Jul 27, 2004 10:09 am

Like Pioneer, NEC annouces the ND-3500 (no price, no date).

- 16x DVD±R writter & reader (140ms)
- 4x DVD±RW
- 4x DVD+R DL
- 48x CD-ROM reader (120 ms)
- 48x CD-R writter
- 24x CD-RW writter

Dangit, was shooting for a 2510A....
the 8x -> 16x doesn't annoy me, it's the 2.4x -> 4x DL that's killing me :x

On another topic anyone ever ordered from Canada Computers? how long do they take to reply to a quotation?

Hmm.. I'm skeptical until I see NEC (or a reliable source) providing these specs.

I'm a little less skeptical

It fits in perfectly with the Pioneer A08 and the PX-716a :D

Yes, but I've seen way too many "official" specs turn out to be nothing more than rumored BS. Give me a reliable source and I'll be happy.

I know what you mean Ian, I'm sure official announcements will come soon :D (although the CD write/rewrite/read specs might change...)

4x DVD+R DL sounds good to me. Now I have the choice between Asus, Pioneer and this one. =D>

@ Decel:
forget Canada Computers, Customer Service is non-existent in that store, and you better know Chinese if you have to return anything there. Try http://ncix.com/, you'll be better off!

Agreed! They didn't ask questions when exchanging my LG 8525B which died during firmware upgrade (official firmware, NOT a hacked drive).

That's what I like about LG and Samsung most. Their "service" is consistent.

Personally, I'd rather just have a drive that doesn't die when I'm upgrading the firmware

And yes, I know that LG DVD burners are supposed to be much better at this... but that doesn't help my LG 8525B

Dang, they had good prices though.
But I'm starting to see the picture, since they haven't replied to my quotation since Monday (I tend to expect quotations within the next couple hours)

I guess I'll get my NEC elsewhere. ncix has them for 30$ more, and generally they're kinda expensive.
They had good prices and decent product selection though :x

I noticed that it's hard to find NEC retailers here in Canada. The 2510As appeared like a month after everywhere else, at least.

NCIX should price match

Even on mail orders? I'm nowhere near Toronto to go directly to buy.

"I want to buy the 2510A but noticed you guys are 30$ more expensive than Canada Computers, can you price match?" <-?

btw I finally got my quote from Canada Computers, I'll carry through with them this time, but if NCIX match prices i'll shop there next time :)

And back to topic. Assuming the ND-3500 shows up today in asian shops. How long will they take to show up on western shores? I guess we can use the 25XX as an example, but how long did it take for those to come here?

NCIX does indeed PM. I've done it once. PM'd them to atic.ca for a 32x LG cd-r drive.

NCIX has some REALLY impressive shipping rates too... I think their standard is like $10 for overnight shipping to anywhere in Canada (that's their minimum price) But I've never been in a situation where I've needed to use it. This is just what I've been told by their accounts manager

I guess so... like I said, I've never been in the position to need it  I always go in person with printouts of competitors pricing.

And in keeping with tradition, looks like they will release a +R only verson as well, model ND-3100A.

And of course, its the same hardware. :)

NEC has always released the Plus-only versions first. ND-3100A has already been produced and shipped somewhere, I guess.
