WinXP wont read Princo DVD-R!

Postby radiokid on Mon Aug 02, 2004 7:27 am

My old computer with WinXP(on which I refuse to install SP1 beacuse it slows it down to the max) wont read Princo DVD-R. I dont know if its just a general DVD-R problem or specifiec to Princo media.
It reads fine on Linux so I am assuming its only a problem with WinXP lacking Service Pack 1. It doesnt recognise the disk at all but works great with pressed DVDs.
It works fine on the computer with SP1 though.

Thanks,
Jamie.

The problem it's not on Windows XP but on the reader... Although Windows XP it's a problem by itself... But then again, most of microsoft produts are a big ball of problems...

Niot yet because I have no Windows XP En edition installed.

What’s New in This Version
• Added new sections: NetSchedule and Task Scheduler APIs, Tablet PC Enhancements, Wireless Network Setup Wizard, Internet Explorer URLaction Settings in Group Policy.

• Revised sections: Data execution prevention, DCOM Security Enhancements, Filter for Add or Remove Programs, Setup, Download, Attachment, and Authenticode Enhancements, Internet Explorer File Download Prompt, Outlook Express E-mail Attachment Prompt, Add-on Install Prompt, Group Policy Internet Explorer Settings, Script repositioning of Internet Explorer windows, Zone Elevation Blocks

The main changes done in Windows XP SP2 are about security, not speed or multimedia. That's why I wasn't in a hurry. Norton or another third-party software does it better usually. But native support of extra features is always good I believe. If it's a free XP SP2 iso image, I'd install it right now on an empty HDD but it's just an update for English and German Win XP.

Not entirely correct. Every SP contains optimizations and compatibility fixes. Multimedia... need I mention DX9.0c? The most advertised and hyped features of the SP relate to security, doesn't mean there aren't other fixes in the mix.

I'm a beta tester, haven't really had issues with any SP build to date.
