Hi, I'm in the market for my first dvd burner and will be getting either of the 2 burners I mentioned in the topic.

My main issue is with bitsetting. I have done a bit of reading on this subject and I am still not exactly sure how bitsetting works...

Basically from what I understand is that if a burner does not support bitsetting then I won't be able to play it on a dvd-rom such as a dvd player or sony ps2?

If this is the case is there a way that I can enable bitsetting on these burners so that I can get around this? What exactly are the consequences? I'm concerned about this because I will be mostly using these burned dvd on my dvd player and it would just be a waste of money if I won't be able to play them on it.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

not all burners support bit setting, actually only a handful do

sorry ive been gone on vacation the past week, so i haven't heard if the nec or pioneer have bitsetting

course as i think Dodech puts it, you don't need bitsetting, just burn dvd-r

all mine play excellent in my xbox, 4x ritek and now prodisc 8x dvd-r

thank you for your reply
ya, I just finished reading that if I use dvd-r media I won't have to deal with bitsetting!
So I will pick up a pioneer 108 and only use dvd-r's

Thanks!
