LG's site just says:

Enhanced the recording quality of DVD+R DL & DVD+R media

is there a story to this?

Well, technically it does because there is proof of latent support with the beta firmware NOAD. My guess is that ether LG hasn't perfected their bitsetting firmware or they just don't care. Use the freeware bitsetting tools found in the threads of this board, they work fine
