Canadians: Vakoss 8x +/-R (Prodisc) on sale BestBuy

Postby myckee on Fri Sep 03, 2004 4:43 pm

Just a heads up for the Canadian folks...

BestBuy has a sale on 100pc spindles of this stuff. Only $59.99CDN. It turns out that it is very good quality Prodisc media.

I didn't actually burn any of the -R as I just bought a LG 4120 burner where I can change the booktype of the +R to DVD-ROM. I'll stick with the +R.

I did burn a few of the +R at the full 8x and they work flawlessly in all of my players, both standalone and pc.

Memorex 50 Pack for $24.99 CDN ($19.20 USD). They still have the 25 pack listed @ $49.99 online.

I went to FS on Friday evening to get the 50's for $24.99. I talked to some employee and he said they were sold out. I asked for a raincheck and as we went to customer service I saw one last pack of DVD-Rs on a cart they had just off to the side there.
"Hey, can you sell me that one?"
"Yeah, sure."
He went to a computer and did typed something in, it was apparantly a returned item they were putting back into stock so I could buy it. I took the pack to the checkout. :D

Yes, futureshop is doing some interesting things right now... they've managed to piss off most of their big name competition, and some of their suppliers while doing it too.

I think Futureshop may stop selling Maxell in the future.... either that or Maxell will have to completely change their way of selling their product.

BenQ media as well has screwed itself over. They gave future shop too good a price on their media, and now since BenQ won't give that price to other distributors so that they can compete, no one is wanted to sell BenQ media anymore!

From all these sales I was under the impression they were all dumping 4x media to make way for 8x? :-k

Actually, companies like Taiyo Yuden are just starting to dump 8x in order to make way for 16x!

Maxell isn't dumping ANYTHING yet... Memorex is probably dumping their 4x. Optodisc hasn't started dumping 4x at all yet, Prodisc has though!

I see, well in any case, my 3500A seems to love these Prodisc S03's:

That might explain how I got Fuji-branded 8x TY DVD+R media for 58 cents. :)

I think BenQ is selling well and will continue selling even better in the future! I alone bought 8*50pack=400 BenQ dvd+r media. They burn amazingly well on my BenQ DW822A burner! =D>

BenQ can't hold a market share with one retail outlet, not even if it's futureshop! But we'll see what they do.

Out of curiosity, are those 8x DVD+Rs or 4x DVD+Rs?

I got 4x dvd+r media, haven't tested any 8x media yet. The 4x media burn OK @ 8x.
