When is PLextor releasing a Dual Layer Drive?

Postby StoneBurner on Thu Sep 09, 2004 8:46 pm

I'm thinking about getting the ND-3500a but I am trying to find out if plextor has anything comint out soon. I even tried calling them but was not given any information. I'm hoping for a 16x DVD + r and 4x dual layer burning, and the NEC seems good on paper but I like plextor.

Next week Thursday at 3pm.

No seriously. Plextor announces their drives 30 days before they hit store shelves. No earlier. They won't even give me a straight answer before then.

Has PLextor put RIpLock on any of their other drives?

Yes, but they also generally provide a simply way to disable the speed lock. Holding the button is usually the trick.

Just use SlySoft's AnyDVD and it will remove the RipLock for you.

rumours were spreading around that Plextor might quit the north american market soon... I think that'd be kinda funny

Is there any reason not to get the NEC?

The NEC 3500 ? Yes, the Pioneer 108 / A08XL is a bit slower but has perfect PI error graphs with f/w 1.10.

Look here.

PS : And the NEC can't burn Ritek DL discs without a hacked f/w...

NEC 3500 firmwares come with builtin support for Ritek DL.

[-X Not currently official f/w 2.16 doesn't. Same story for the NEC 2510 stock f/w 2.16.

But official 2.07 / 2.17 is coming with Ritek DL support.

I mean unofficial 2.x7 OEM firmwares and it is not added by firmware hacker like the firmware for NEC 2510.
