New FAQ Section

Postby Ian on Wed Dec 31, 1969 11:25 pm

I know some of you are getting sick of answering the same questions over and over. Hopefully once the FAQ section gets full of good explanations, we can just cut and paste links instead of typing the same thing over and over and over....

It seems that even you are tired of repeating yourself. :)

Hey! IAn

lol  ! People are not smart as you think! I am seeing that you keep repeating your post (similar messages) many times already. So, you are the person who started and they just the followers. J/K

On another board i've seen an effective solution where the FAQ thread is always locked as the first thread displayed on each relevant section.

This stops a lot of question threads from even appearing in the first place, and is generally faster for the poster asking as well.

Just a suggestion.

news news news !!!

1. new FAQ up! :D

How to enable DMA in Windows 2000 (with pictures)

2. a new version of the XP FAQ

How to enable DMA in Windows XP (with pictures) (version 2)

very small changes compared with the original version
How to enable DMA in Windows XP (with pictures)
small addition at step 4, and replcement of jpeg images with png ones. smaller size and better image quality IMO.

anyone care to comment?

cfitz - your'e my man!
i'm expecting your commentary/criticism.

First of all, nice job and thanks. Your work on the FAQs is appreciated. Also, the png is a good replacement - both clearer and smaller.

My one suggestion for something to change would be to simply edit the original thread, replace it with the contents of the new thread, and then delete the new thread. I don't think we need two threads for this, and it would be nice to keep the latest information in the original thread so that any older posts that are linked to the original thread will be updated with the new information and better graphics as well.

Also, you might want to put a link at the end of the post to the "Problems enabling DMA in Windows XP" thread or incorporate the contents of that thread into the main "How to enable DMA in Windows XP (with pictures)" thread. (If you do decide to incorporate it, you will still have to leave "Problems enabling DMA in Windows XP" as a separate thread since many posts already reference it.)

By the way, in an effort to help out a little bit, I updated the "Problems enabling DMA in Windows XP" thread with Han's tip on deleting the named value from that funky registry key.

both threads existing simulataneously - this is temporary, only while i'm awaiting on feedback, someone might want to compare (i hope you have). then of course i'm going to do exactly what you said.

I was just going to suggest that "Mr. FAQ" would be an appropriate title for you, but then noticed your "CD-RW Polygon" (at best a 2-dimensional approximation to a mulitdimensional object/personality). How long have you had that honour?
