Star Wars DVD's

Postby Ian on Tue Sep 21, 2004 11:18 am

Anyone else go out and buy them this morning? I was at my local Walmart at 7:20 this morning so I could also score a set of the exclusive toys that were coming out today. As it was, the lazy toy manager hadn't even put them out yet. #-o

Still need to pick up Battlefront. No stores had the PC version this morning. I'll have to hit up Best Buy after work.

Ahh, my Wal-Mart bought, silver Wide-Screen version is sitting right here in my grubby little hands... too bad I have been sworn not to open it until my birthday on the 28th, a DAY after I'm back at college. Talk about a buzz kill.

What exclusive figures came out today? I saw this really bitchin 18'' remake of the Fett doll released a few decades ago (even had the vintage box, too cool). If that came out today, I might be making another trip... I have become pretty lax on collecting the figures since Episode I came out (too many spectators ruining it for everyone else), only getting the token Fett figure once and awhile. I still hold quite a nice collection of vintage 1978-1998 Kenner though ;)

I pre-ordered my WS set from DeepDiscountDVD.com when they had a 20% off coupon code back in May. It was shipped out last week, so I assume it'll arrive today or later this week. Not bad for $33.50 shipped. :D

Ian, what special toys were released today?

A bunch of 3 packs (well one 4 pack.. R2 doesn't count) with DVD like packaging. The figures in the packs aren't new.

You talking about the 12" OTC Fett that came out a little while ago? He's pretty slick, but not worth $30 IMO.

I have become pretty lax on collecting the figures since Episode I came out (too many spectators ruining it for everyone else)

Me too. There are too many people out there trying to make a buck off collectors. You've got people that don't even like the toys, running out of stores with carts or cases full of figures just so they can put them on eBay. Thankfully, Transformer collecting hasn't gotten like that (yet).

I believe the MSRP (is that the correct acronym?) for the Original Star Wars Triology DVDs in the US is a ludicrous $70 something dollars. It was at my Wal-Mart here in bland Oregon for $48.00.

I paid $44.97 shipped. Shipping was $2.98, I paid that $2.98 for shipping, because Free shipping was too slow for my impatient self. Free shipping would have been $41.99 shipped.

I picked up Battlefront after work. The damn installer doesn't work right. I had to visit their tech support sight and eventually copy 2 of the 3 CD's to my hard drive to be able to install the game. Sigh.. you'd think they could at least make the installer bug free.

I received my boxed set today. Came in perfect condition too.

During my lunch break, I went to check out Wal-Mart and I saw the Star Wars boxed toy set. There was only one tho and they looked rather cheap, so I didn't bother buying it.

I also saw some other Star Wars figures, but they had a plastic case over some retro looking card backing. But I quickly put them down when I saw the price tag of $9.83. :o

Lotsa people over at the [H] Games Forum are complaining about this too. They seem to be having problems with emulation software as well.

I saw those today too. Those cardbacks (the front anyway) were from the original insanely collectable Kenner 3-3/4'' action figure line. I got a good laugh out of seeing them with the newly sculpted figures inside.

Oh, my Wal-Mart droped the price of both Wide-Screen and Full-Screen editions to $34.99... So of course I got a refund for my old set and rebought it ;)

These are the vintage original trilogy collection figures (VOTC to collectors). The newer figures are worth their weight in gold. Stores can't even keep them on the shelves around here.

A couple of the reviews on Amazon mention a problem playing one of the disks:

"Then I put in A New Hope and 57 minutes into the movie, it paused and restarted from the beginning. I went to chapter 27 and reversed it to a little bit after the error and it did it again. I returned it today and the lady said "Oh, another one". Apparently somebody else had the same problem I did but on A New Hope and Empire. However, the exchanged version of A New Hope did not have the same problem. Beware! Watch all 3 movies before you throw away your receipt."
