Plextor Europe officially announces the 716A

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Postby alexnoe on Tue Sep 28, 2004 5:36 am

Well, Nero is just as junky as easy cd creator... the LG 4120B I bought came in a package as I like it: plastic bag with drive+manual inside. No Nero inside which I wouldn't want to pay one single cent for.

Nero has always been inferior to cdrecord and dvddecrypter and still is.... for example, you have to update it with a 28 MB download each time a new drive shall be supported. cdrecord / dvddecrypter always worked with newer drives, without the necessity to download a 28 MB update each month, just swapping old bugs for new ones. And Nero still can't handle long file names (more than 107 characters) and long volume ids (more than 16 characters)

The one an only thing Nero is good for is spying on its aspi traffic to find out bitsetting commands...

Geez I forgot how to install the PLEX TOOLS! #-o

1- Create a registry entry
From this source...

Add this key :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Juxtaposition] Parameter (REG_SZ) ="11111111"

2- Download Plextools Pro 2.16 upgrade and install it !

Yes, Plextor has announced a SATA version as well.

question though, will it be a native SATA drive, or just the same as the ATAPI drive with a bridge attached ?

LightScribe won't be out until 2005. I'm not sure if Plextor has even signed on with HP for it yet.

Or if they will.... Since we know HP likes NEC and Ricoh for their burners, it's likely one of them will be signed on for supporting it.

I have looked at plex drives before I almost bought 708a, but the reviews stopped me, and 712a was only +R 12x again I was stopped but this time if I can find the money I think I will get this 716a drive, man is the spec on this drive sweet.

Nowhere, it was just a joke.

Yamaha is RIP my friends, but it was a good idea. Again lightscribe will be "colored" for the next evolutions and not only monochrome. Without a specific printer, I think it's pretty cool...

My point exactly. Yamaha CRW-F1 DiscT@2 was good idea, but you had to trade burning surface space to write and/or draw something on it, and you needed dark blue dye CD-R/RW to be clearly visible. So I'm thinking maybe this lightscribe will probably need lightscribe compatible discs and possibility that it may have some kind of side effects on durability and longevity (data archival duration) of the discs.

You need special lightscribe DVD discs, and Verbatim will provide them first.

Anyone else envisioning discs that are gonna cost $5 a pop? Verbatim isn't exactly cheap as it is.

As always, inovation has a cost (at the begining almost).
2.4X DL discs and good 16X SL discs are still quite expensive. And so DVD burners were a few months ago...
