Verbatim 3 pack DVD+R DL; saw them over a week ago at BB

Postby VEFF on Wed Oct 06, 2004 11:17 pm

I noticed the story in today's news that Verbatim was shipping 3 packs of DVD+R DL.
I saw these 3 packs at Best Buy over a week ago, but had no idea it was something that was so new or that people were unaware of, otherwise I would have reported it.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw them. Actually that was after I thought "They want $35? That's still too expensive!"

Me too.
I was staring at the 50 packs of Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) 8X DVD+R for $29.99
before $5 rebate thinking why would I pay more than that for only 3
2.4X DL discs...
I won't convert to DL till prices comes down a lot.

In the meantime I may buy a 100 pack of TY 8X +R media from one of the reputable online merchants (only $55 + shipping and dropping every four days or so, for now at least).

Interesting enough, the Fuji 8x DVD+R (YUDEN000T02) that I purchased from Newegg burned consistantly faster (based on a 4.36GB disc) on the 712A than on the 108 and 4120B using CloneDVD 2.4.5.4!

6:10 – Plextor PX-712A (FW 1.05)
6:30 – Pioneer DVR-108 (FW 1.14)
6:47 – LG GSA-4120B (FW A111)

Where can you get 100pcs for only $55?
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

Especially since Sony's online store is still selling them for $9.99 each, or $49.95 for 6.

It's interesting to see how mean Verbatim was to you. Here, DL media has been available in single juwel cases from the very beginning (at first, one disc was 14 euro, no they are down to about 10 euro)
