NEC OWNERS GOOD NEWS

Postby mikepraba on Sun Oct 17, 2004 9:05 pm

Hello all NEC owners.
I just wanna share my experiance with you all. I was able to achieve something that I thought wasn't able to. With Italian Job's help i was able to do this and very very happy with the results. If you have Nec drive and want to improve your drive. please read the post here http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 8feefb14d1

I burned almost 6 movies since then and i tried them in 7 different dvd players 1 year to 6 years old. Sony to memorex All perfect results. i think my dvds will play in any dvd players like original pressed dvds.
I thought to share with everyone so you can enjoy as much as i do. plese post your results or feedback if you are able to do it
thanks
Mike

You can also install Herrie's 1.07 V2 Beta 5 firmware and have bitsetting support, as well as the ability to write far more 4x media types at 8x.

Hi The Dog,
Is there any other advantage with Herrie's firmware other than compatibility with other brand dvd media? Because I use only brand names like Verbatim, Sony Maxell and Fuji media. The Firmware i used gives me option to book type set for DVD+R and DVD DL to DVD_ROM. Unless there are more advantage I wouldn't use herrie's firmware. If you or anyone get a chance please let me know if there are any other advantages. Also is it possible to upgrade herrie's firmware over TDB's MAD DOG firmware I have. I think this will help other NEC users to make the right decision. Also, someone told me If we use the NEC 3500 firmware to upgrade on NEC 2510 that wuld make the drive to write 12X. Is there any thruth to it?

Herrie's firmware allows you to set DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD+R DL media booktype to DVD-ROM. I didn't think the Mad Dog firmware allowed you to set DVD+RW, but I could be wrong.

As for media types, Herrie's firmware allows you to write a lot of 4x media at 8x. If all the media you buy burns at 8x with the Mad Dog firmware, then you gain nothing. But if you buy 4x media, then Herrie's firmware probably has the advantage.

Yes, you should be able to go back and forth between them. You might need to use the DOS firmware to go to the TDB/Mad Dog firmware after Herrie's firmware.

No.

The NEC ND-3500 drive is completely different. The firmwares are not compatible.
