PX-716A Availibility Thread

Postby aviationwiz on Thu Oct 14, 2004 6:34 pm

I remember for the PX-712A, I started what turned out to be a rather large thread going over the first places that were selling the drive.

To start it out for the PX-716A, there is Buy.com

CDW has it listed for sale for $147.76, but they don't have it in stock, and the estimated ship date is 2 weeks. The URL is:

Interpret that as you will, but when I talked to Plextor last week they said it was still going to be "a few weeks" until they get them in.

Personally, I'm looking for the best price on one with a black bezel. I want one for my main computer.

From the Plextor web site at http://www.plextor.com/english/products/716A.htm
Replaceable black front bezel included
Which should save their distrubutors a lot of grief by cutting the number of SKUs in half.

given how much it costs to make a bezel, it's probably not too hard to include an extra one. It's a nice touch though :)

UGH!!!!

It can't even do 12x on Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+Rs yet!!

It looks like Plextor rushed the drive out without doing a proper firmware for it. I'm highly disapointed! And the burn quality even at 8x was very poor.

On the bright side, it seems to have a running optical power calibration going now! :D

What a fucking POS. Plextor needs to learn that your supposed to make drives better than their predecessor’s not worse.

I was just over at Best Buy in Westminster, CA, and they also had the new Plextor 716A. The price was $179, though. I don't think many people will pay that price unless the drive is way-better than anything else on the market.

Buy.com has lowered the preorder price to $130.99 plus $7.89 standard shipping to the US!

Of course, I am sure the pre-orders will slow way down after people see the disappointing scans!
