4X burn OK 8x burn no good

Postby davidh10 on Sun Nov 14, 2004 12:50 pm

:x I used a 4x + R DVD burner for a long time with no compatibility with my other dvd players (3 on TVs and 4 in computers). I usually use DVDdecrypter and CloneDVD2 or DVD Xpress copy. I recently bought an 8X +/- Toshiba and burned some movies on HP +R 8X blanks. Nothing I have will play these things, including the burner they were made on. They just say "loading" forever.
I dropped the record speed to 4X in CloneDVD2 and burned to a 4X blank and an 8X blank at 4x speed and those movies play fine. Can't figure why the 8X speed is totally incompatible.

first you need to know whether its your burned discs or the player, so you have to download one of the programs to scan the disc to see how bad the error rate is (Kprobe, Nero CD-DVD speed). Since you have problems playing the disc on computers then its definitly a poorly burned disc. Second is to try burning at a slower speed 2.4 or whatever, also make sure DMA is enabled for all your drives. Third and probably most important is to find our if there is a bitsetting tool that you can apply to your drive. If there is no tool available, then you might have to get a copy of Nero, I'm pretty sure it automatically sets DVD-ROM when buring a dvd video disc.

Also, make sure you have the latest firmware loaded in your burner.
good luck :)

Don't have any problems with it when I burn at 4x.

You originally posted "no compatability", you should have said "no compatability problems".

My burner is 8X, but I only burn at 4x to keep the error rate as low as possible. I've got a bunch of TY media and I still only burn it at 4x.
