Digital Max 16X DVD+/-RW dual layer burner - $40 @Office Max

Postby vinnie97 on Thu Nov 18, 2004 12:55 am

Office Max may very well have this on sale for Black Friday for only $40 (after instant/mail-in rebates). Is anyone aware of the actual manufacturer? I'm also wondering about the viability of the mail-in rebate itself...

I might pick this up or the I/O Magic 16X dual-layer burner on sale at Staples the same morning (this is most likely BenQ, yes?).

Whatever I choose, this will be my first DVD burner. :o

Don't hold me to it but I think the Digital Max is a LiteOn drive.

You have to watch those OfficeMax mail in rebates. I must have mailed in 40 of those when they were running all those free after rebate specials a while ago. About 5-10 were deemed invalid for no good reason. I had to call them and resubmit some of them to get the rebates. If you aren't good at following up on rebates than I would recommend against it.

I got a Western Digital a couple years back that required a rebate....had no problems receiving it. I don't remember if the rebate was from OM or Western Digital, however.

This also isn't a free after rebate item, so maybe the excess scrutiny won't be present? I will say that I've never had a rebate denied, but I've probably done only around 10 or so total, from different sources.

Thanks for that link, Overclock. I'm thinking the I/O Magic is a better gamble at this stage. LiteOn hasn't done so well in the dvd burning sector.

Yes, the local Staples traffic was surprisingly light last BF!

BenQ as the manufacturer, easy-going Staples, I doubt I'll concern myself with Office Max. I think there's even a free-after-rebate shredder @ Staples to further sweeten the trip.

Digital Max = LiteOn

Postby peavs2000 on Wed Nov 24, 2004 12:42 pm

Went to my local Office Max yesterday (Tuesday) and they had one of the $39.99 Black Friday Digital Max drive out on the floor :o . $99.99 regular price. Box said it has "Smart Burn" and "Smart X".

Also has a web site for other info: WWW.GODIGITALMAX.COM

Looks like a LiteOn to me :D .
