Looming DVD shortage?

Postby I_Dzhugashvili on Mon Nov 22, 2004 7:12 pm

You will certainly forgive me if this has already been brought to your attention, but according to www.TheInquirer.net there will be a shortage of blank media in the beginning of the New Year.
Here is the link to the story:

Whatever... the Inq likes to speculate and start up rumors.

Lemme put it this way, it's called supply and demand. Disc manufacturers never make enough of the latest and greatest media to meet demand. That way they keep the profits high and their pockets fat. If they actually met demand, we'd be picking up discs for dirt cheap.

Heh, that would last me a month of serious burning.... luckily however I usually have about 500-600 DVDRs on hand at any given time

There is indeed a problem when it comes to good 16x media if people would go and buy instantly as soon as the first volumes hit the market.
However I do think that quite some folks will waite so that the prices on 16x media drop.(Since 16x at this time is still quite high priced.)

Also note the followeing from the 16x media (that is approved by Philips ) that's currently being sold on the European Market and American Market more then 80% is manufacturerd by CMC.
