Help with DVD rewriters?

I want to buy a dvd rewriter but I am getting confused reading all the reviews from various sites. i have read many reviews but one thing i have noticed is that the best drive for you will be on what you want to use the drive for?
Basically I want a dvd rewriter because i want to make data dvd's, put pictures, make audio cd's, burn movies and copy dvd's.

From my research nec3500 are getting alot of thumbs up and also the pioneer dvr108, but are there any other which are better or which one is the best?

I believe you can't go wrong with Plextor products. I have a 708A that has been great. Its been durable and is still burning . The Plextor 712A and 716A are their newer products, and have outstanding reviews . I have made data discs and movie back ups using the 708A, and it has never failed; the only errors have been my own!

I think I'm one of the few people that like the 712A/SA... but the 716A still has some writing quality issues that need to be worked out. If people are giving it good reviews... they should get their reviewer licenses revoked.

Does anyone know if i can use an IDE interface than a Serial ATA interface for Plextor PX-712A because i do not think i have got a serial ATA plug on mu computer (or whatever it is called).

can i anyone show me what serial ATA looks like, or find out if i have got one on my computer.

Im looking forward to the NEC 3520 and the Pioneer 109. 8x RW write would be nice.

If you are going to be burning movies then you are going to want 4x dual layer support (eventually when the prices of the discs drop). The NEC3500 has excellent dual layer support and it is inexpensive.

From what people have said, what do YOU think is the best drive for your needs? Make the decision for yourself.. don't let someone think for you. You'll be happier with your purchase in the long run.

It's difficult to really buy a bad burner these days! Most of the big names (Benq, Sony, Plextor, LiteOn,...etc) are all very competitive and most likely when people runs into problems, it's either the Softwares that they use or their OS. (e.g problems with Nero 6.3, however by updating to Nero 6.6, all problems solved and Windows 2000 Pro needs SP4 to fuction correctly with these new burner).
