Well with the 108 drive you can only rip encrypted retail dvd's at 5X because pioneer block the ripping speeds of the oem drives unlike other brands. But with the retail A08XL drives you can rip to the full 12x speed. Thats one of the reasons people use hacked firmwares like nil's along with making it region free too. Im not interested in region free

hey Markz2k, you can scan dvds burned with the pio just use dvdinfopro

it can now scan with the pioneer series drives

ive never tried overburning cd-r in my 108 cause my pio is strictly dvd burning only

my SATA dvd-rom/cd-rw is my cd burner and dvd ripper
