BenQ Updated Firmware - B7S9 (official)

Postby crea78 on Wed Dec 01, 2004 4:31 pm

This was posted by doorqyu over at CDFreaks.com forum. On BenQ Korea's website, you can d/l the latest offical firmware from BenQ (B7S9). Like the B7P9, it will support 4X DL & will improve the writing strategy for [AN31] DVD-R media. Included in the zip file is an up-to-date media list for both DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+R DL. So far, the new firmware seems to be doing better than B7S9.

Here is a direct link to the firmware which zevia posted: http://service.benq.com.hk/HKUploadFile/Drivers/ZIP/DW1620_Firmware_B7S9.zip

Edit: For those that want it in the .cvt extension, Brother Vlad has posted it up this version as well http://tdb.rpc1.org/original/1620B7S9.ZIP

Thanks for the heads up and link. I have one and it's great how it's almost hard to keep up with the firmware updates, and they actually improve the drive :)

Those codes have supposedly been able to be burned at 16x for a very long time... although I've not personally been able to with my drive, many other people have succeeded.

I am still waiting on the tool to disable wopc.
the firmware was said to be geared for the chineese market and low quality media. personaly I would like to see the b7n9 firmware that was mentioned over at cdfreaks. unffortunately there is yet no way to extract the cvt file from the benq drives.
this firmware is from and out of the box benq 1620 pro.

Why would you want to disable WOPC?

to see how fast it will burn good media.
someone did this at cdfreaks with nec 3500 and the speed was good and quality was decent.

yea me too but it was said to be targeted to the hong kong area because they sell alot of lower quality media, and b7s9 is suppose to improve the burning on lower quality media not much else was said about other improvements.
some have said they like b7p9 better but with the media i use i have not seen any difference.

T is out :)

Release Reasons:

1. Support Ricoh DVD+R DL [RICOHJPN D00] media.
2. Modify the writing strategy for both DVD+R & DVD-R media.
3. Support CCCD media playback.
