Postby bch on Tue Dec 07, 2004 10:27 am

For any brave soul that wants to give it a try ver 1.02 for PX-716A can be found at this Chinese site. To translate with Babel Fish use Chinese-trad. The firmware link is at the bottom of the page.

It should be officially available in the next day or two as well. I've mirrored cdbest's file here:

I have not tried it, so used at your own risk.

More info on TLA:0101 ----> TLA:0102 fw 1.02

Burned two more tests

yuden T02 at 16x with AS off and PR off not so nice

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p ... stcount=13

yuden T02 at 12x with AS on and PR on looks pretty good.

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p ... stcount=17

Thoughts! As long as AS is on and PR is on the TLA:0101 --->TLA:0102 fw 1.02, does a very nice job on 12x and 16x burns.

From what I can gather, yes.

AS is a waste if you're using well known media from companies like TY. It's designed to work with unknown stuff, that isn't recognized by the drive. Turning this off shouldn't matter at all.

Im not 100% sure but from my few tests with TLA:0102 and looking at only 2 real TLA:0202 scans posted on cd freak, for now it would seem that what ever hardware 02 did it does not seem to add any thing to the burn quality over a TLA:0102 , so I would say that till we see otherwise that adding fw 1.02 to TLA:0101 will give you a quality pretty close or = to TLA:0202.

I'm gonna wait for the official release of firmware 1.02 from Plextor to update my TLA#0101 drive.

TLA#0000=TLA#0001-TLA#0101=TLA#0202
All of above are same writing quality problem.
I bought TLA#0000 and TLA#0101 from BB, I returned and looking to buy.
But finally I changed to buy LG GSA-4163B or NEC ND-3520A.
I have no idea to buy PX-716A again for my mental health.

Since the Plextor 716A is manufactured in China this chinese F/W update may be seen as an official PLEXTOR F/W release !
