Hi all! :D I'm back from another long absence. :( Aside from the biggest news, what else have I missed while I was gone?

Good ta seeya back! :D

What's new? Well, pretty much my whole computer (see sig for details). I posted a case mod thread on it, but since I took those pictures, it got a new mainboard, CPU, RAM, and graphics card. Managed to sell a spare system, so Christmas came a little early this year.

Hi cfitz, nice to see you back! :D :D Tell us about life in the wilderness.

What's new? Dodec almost bought a DVD-burner, aviationwiz almost called a Plextor a POS, scour almost said something nice about a LiteOn drive.
bhairavp became Bhairav after passing Monte in post count on 1 Dec.
The forum has a print preview mode.
And Slim continues to make pithy remarks both in posts and signature (but that's not new).

It is always nice to return to a warm welcome. How have you been? I hope well.

Ian wrote:Where you been?

I've just been busy. Life sometimes gets that way. I'm sure my "busy" is nothing compared to what yours is or least will soon become (by the way, congratulations again), but I'm not too efficient a person, so when I get busy I have to put some some things temporarily aside in order to get done the things I need to get done. In this case, CDRLabs got put aside.

Thanks LoneWolf. It's good to be back. Sounds like you've been keeping pretty busy too. Nice system. I bet it rocks. Now that you have all that power, what are you going to do with it?

Huh? Where am I? What happened? Ouch! The back of my head hurts...

Oh, yeah, that's right, I was reading Slim's post. Yikes! That's a lot of rock. Have things changed between Monte and Jen? I hope so, or this is going to be an expensive lesson.

Many years ago I was dating a woman who for months admired Tiffany's Elsa Peretti BEAN pendant. Christmas was coming so I drove 80 miles to a Tiffany store and spent ~$500 on a large gold version. I was so pleased that I had finally hit the perfect gift.

Christmas came, I excitedly gave her the gift, she opened it and said, "Oh. That's nice." :( What a let-down. I think she wore it once, maybe twice (at least in my presence). That was when I swore off ever again buying expensive gifts like jewelry for women.

I hope, for Monte's sake, that his experience is different. But I wouldn't want to bet my $7000 on it.

Hi MediumRare! Thanks for the welcome. It is good to see you as well.

Based on those first three events, I'm wondering if I should check the temperature in the nether-regions of the Earth...

I saw the print mode and thought Dodecahedron must have been quite happy when that was added. He's been lobbying for that for a long time.

I'm glad that at least I can count on the constancy of Slim. I always enjoy his signature comments.

Hi BuddhaTB! Long time no see. How are things at the shoe forum? I bought a new pair of athletic shoes just a couple of weeks ago. But, being the cheapskate that I am, I just got a pair of New Balance on sale at DSW. I guess I'd better not show my head in your Nike forum...

Escher is my favorite artist and I just recently saw an exhibition of his work at a local gallery. It was great. I have always tried to keep an eye out for an exhibition with his work and I stumbled upon this one by accident. 1st and only exhibition I have seen around here and had an original print of Reptiles on display, Price upon inquiry. Ascending and Descending was going for $32,500 so I’m sure Reptiles was more. The gallery owner informed me that Yoko Ono purchased the last print of Drawing Hands for $200,000+.

Even had a graphite sketch of an Italian castle he did in 1924, very raw looking. I was allowed to take some pictures, but without the flash. I would say he had about 70 pieces on display.

I can't say much about the lizards (I'm not a herpetologist), but the probability of finding a miniature jigsaw puzzle (ca. 100 wooden pieces) with that picture at the Frankfurt Christmas market is > 75% (there were at least 4 there last weekend).

More ramblings OT.
I picked up the jigsaw puzzle yesterday- it's only 6.5 cm square (you'd need tweezers to work on it :o).

I mentioned it to my wife, and she said that Escher's work was based on Albrecht Dürer's Melancholia- including the polyhedron. I didn't know this and checked into it a bit. This seems to be a very interesting work.

Image

The polyhedron is a kind of truncated skewed cube with 8 faces (not a truncated tetrahedron like several sites say). Here are a couple of links:

I want to see pictures of you putting it together with the tweezers. How many pieces are in it? Is this the same 100-piece puzzle you mentioned in the earlier post?
