problems with DVD compatibility & burning

Postby rmm1975 on Tue Dec 14, 2004 7:59 pm

I captured a movie from my 8mm camera to .avi format. Then I used TMPGEnc to encode it to mpg format. I used ULead DVD to make a movie with menu's, etc. and burned it to DVD.

I can play the burned DVD in my DVD player and my cousin's DVD player and it plays fine throughout.

But when I play it in my Aunts DVD player (the person I actually made the DVD for), only the menu music plays. There is no sound to the rest of the movie on her DVD player. Yet it works fine on mine. Does that makes sense?

Does anyone have any idea's what I can do to fix this?

Does she see the video?
If so she might have to check the audio settings on her DVD player...or you might have use AC3/PCM instead of MP2.

what is AC3/PCM vs. MP2? Is that something adjusted on the DVD player or when I burn the DVD?

It's when you burn the DVD.
MP2 is MPEG-1 layer II audio(compressed and similar to MP3),AC3 is Dolby audio(compressed),PCM is uncompressed(huge files). Most video programs give you the option to output to MP2 or PCM but very few offer AC3.
The DVD specs allow PCM and AC3 but some players will not accept MP2.
