Would have been nice to have a full review, but a preview is better than nothing. They must have been burning the midnight oil to whip that out.

Hello!

Good results in the error-correction-tests and writing quality, that´s a good news.

Also good for testing the write qality and it can do bit-setting.

The writing-times could be lower, but that isn´t so important for me, other things like write-quality means much more to me :)

@Ian:

Congratulations for your over 10000 posts :)

BTW, do you get soon a 716A for a review ?

No, but I posted some early impressions of the drive.

I'm currently waiting on word of the 1.03 firmware before I really get into my testing.

No idea what they did burn their MCC 16x +R with, but all the other scans i've seen so far were far from good. Maybe plextor sent them one of the few sample drives actually working?

You can have a VERY good impression with Ian's pre-reviews... Also, you can surf into cdrinfo and check plextor forum. There you'll find enumerous posts and tests made my users...

I can summarize things if you want. Basically the 716 is a good 8x and 12x burner and has some issues on 16x.
There are also some tests on DL media but they are not very conclusive.

Anyway, if you reed Ian reeview you'll get a pretty realistc view of things...

Plextor Europe is working very hard to try to get the second revision hardware to work properly with only a firmware upgrade. It is not that unlikely however that we will see a TLA# 0303 or 0304 in the not too distant future :o (Looks like January?)

Well it seems that it did ship afterall in Europe however I'm still a bit puzzled about the info.
So the next question is did the hardware revision and the firmware fixed it.
And why do some stores still list it as unknown when it will be there. While they did anounce there prices for it 2 week after the drive was announced.
