Depends if the motherboard supports it. Also if you have non-ECC RAM on the computer, the answer is no.

ECC RAM is overkill for most desktop applications.

If it does not say in your motherboard manual (or in rare cases, BIOS updates), it will not support ECC ram. Besides, ECC ram is always slower than regular unbuffered ram. Plus, ECC has zero tangible benefit unless you are running mulitple gigs of ram

Considering that Outpost.com periodically sells new Kingston HyperX 2x512 kits for $150-160, I'd say you'd be better off checking there and not Ebay. Bought my PC3200 kit there for $159 a few weeks ago.

Ebay can have good deals...but always shop around first to know whether you're getting a good deal on a quality product or not. A lot of sellers make quite a bit of extra money off uninformed people...and that's the fault of the buyer for failing to educate themselves.

Kingston has different model codes for different HyperX RAM, if someone was selling the Ultra-Low Latency version of HyperX that might be worth it, or older Winbond BH5 based stuff...but if it's current, that really isn't a deal when compared to retail.
