That's a very rough beta version according to my sources.
They suggest waiteing for the real firmware since there is hardly any media out there yet.
Only thing that it might be nice for is extraction of some -R MID codes so identifaction of this media and manufacturer is supported.

Yeah, it disables things like VariRec, GigaRec and SecuRec. According to their website, the final firmware will be released in mid January.

Man... for Plextor to let leak a beta firmware now? They must be REALLY struggling. It just keeps getting better and better

They promised DVD-R DL support in December. They're delivering it.. in beta form.

Just a few things to consider (translated from website):

# This firmware was not sufficiently verified.
# Updating to this firmware is the customer's risk.
# The company will not compensate if data or hardware is damaged from
the firmware upgrade.
# Technical support isn't available with this firmware.

so who has DVD-R9 media??

I only know 2 or 3 companies that could pull it off right now, and I don't know ANYONE that actually is shipping samples yet.

I bought a plex 716A yesterday at BB and decided to try the 1c04 firmware out. Guess what? It has changed the burn pattern to true PCAV. The burn starts at about 6.65 instead of 6.06X and therefore does not have the large "jump" in the last .5 GB.

I burned a Verbatim 16x (MCC04) at 5:52 with Powerec off and 6:01 with Powerec on. I also burned TY 8x (DVD+R) disc at 5:53 (powerec off) and 6:05 with powerec on. It does drop down to 12x or 8x in the last .5 GB.

I did a disk quality test with the burns and the results were all in the 90's with acceptable PIEs and PIFs. If I get motivated today, I might do some reburns and post them.

So far, no problems with the fimware. It might be worth a try for some of you who are more adventurous!
