It has riplock, so ripping DVD Video discs takes forever!
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

I have the exact problem with my new 3500 A as I am using a hacked 2.18 firmware with riplock patch and I only get 3.1 max rip. I am not real happy right now as I just got it today and read everwear this drive just needs a flash and will rip better and now I am stuck with it and it stinks ripping.

Go to the following page and read very carefully on various modded f/w available for your NEC-3500 and choose the one based on your own needs, flash your drive with that choosen f/w and you are on business.

I have just ripped and encoded and burned a movie using DVD shrink 3.2. It took me 46 minutes total to extract, encode and burn at 8X. The movie was 3 the Dale Earnhardt story. I use a teon DVD-R 8X

Is this good or bad?

My system
AMD 2500 mobile at 2.6 ghz
nf7-s MB
80gb HD 8Mg casch
windows Xp

Grab the free program DVDecrypter and rip the original disc to your hard drive and then it will report the Maximum and Average speeds upon completion.

If the movie you burned was protected movie and D/L disc, then 45 mitutes is Ok and normal, if the disc was S/L then average time is 30-35 minutes.
