Someone solve my mystery

I need my mystery answered, from common user expierence.
I have currently I have a Pioneer 107 drives. When burning movies, using benq disks, playback is good, works well. Is the Pioneer 108, alot better then the 107. Non review wise, from personal expierence.
When burning data, even on TY DVDS, the quality just isnt there. I cannot copy the dvd back to hard drive. Is it possible for a dvd burner to burn movies better then data.
Can someone help me get these questions answer properly.
Benq, Lq, Nec, Plextor, Pioneer, Liteon, any of these make drives which are superior for data. I mean not looking at the graphs and seeing benchmarks, but actual real life expierence, meaning the dvd will copy to hard drive fast, cause no problems.
If I was to choose, the best of the best dvd burner for data, which should I choose.
Is dvd+r ment only for data, dvd-r will not work well for data.
I have used Ty, Memorex, Prodisc, Ridata, dvd+r and dvd-r, all seems fine for movies, but so far none for data.
Is TY proven to be best, by benchmarks, graphs, or acutal real life experience, playback, usage.
I have read many reviews, on drives, but all seems different. THere seems to be no drive which feels "best" in all areas.

First, DVD-R and DVD+R are essentially the same for data backups. The quality of the media determines how much luck you'll get out of either of them. Second, perfection doesn't exist, anywhere. This also applies to the optical storage industry. It is generally accepted that Taiyo Yuden (at this point) makes the finest consumer available media on the market today. If you are having playback problems it could be one of many things (like fake TY media, incorrect PC layout, and/or a crappy/broken burner). I would suggest trying your media on someone else's burner and then see if you can copy the data back to your HDD. If you can, you know the problem lies with you. If you can't... you got bad media

I think ill Rma the drive. I never rmad with Pioneer. Will I need to call them up or email them. Any chance of getting a Pioneer 108, if i pay the difference.

email them via the pioneer website or where ever you purchased the drive from.

what software are you using when burning data to dvd media? there are lots of variables in burning dvds. what firmware are you using for your 107 drive? you may want to upgrade to the latest firmware that pioneer has for the 107 drive before you RMA it. if i am not mistaken if you're using a hacked firmware with the drive, pioneer will not RMA it even if you flash it back to a original pioneer firmware.

if you want another dvd burner the BENQ 1620 is a good reader and burner.
