Chances are PayPal will not refund your money if the "crook's" account has insufficient funds. The only exception is if you paid a little extra upfront to purchase PayPal's Buyer Protection.

I was ripped off once by a guy on eBay, and I filed a case with PayPal. They couldn't recover anything because the seller's account had insufficient funds as well. The experience taught me a very important lesson: be extremely wary of who I buy products/services from.

I filed a complaint through the FBI about the transaction through paypal and also contacted authorities in Texas... I have his contact information, provided it is correct. I'm coming for you!

Anyone that was taken by this individual should file a complaint with the FBI. They will forward the information to the San Antonio authorities.

Google for djren12 and you will see that he has been ripping off people all over the place. Not just with this CD-R scam, but on Range Rover parts as well. Given the scope of his misdeeds, it wouldn't surprise me if the total take elevates his activities to felony level.

Maybe you victims should try to get together and pursue this as a group. That might get more action.

As for PayPal, their response to this and their other fraudulent activities leads me to consider them accessories in massive, world-wide fraud. They may not be perpetrating it directly, but they are profiting from it and, in my opinion, not taking sufficient action to prevent it or rectify it when it does happen. The FTC ought to crack down on them and force them to be more responsible.

Sorry, I'm just joining this discussion now..

I doubt the FBI will be able to track him down. Last year a guy ripped off a bunch of people on eBay. He was in the Army no less and after talking to the military police they basically said "too bad.. we're after terrorists".

Here's his info.. if it helps

I would also take it up with AOL. They probably wouldn't like the fact that one of their customers was doing internet fraud.

I suggest banning users from using AOL, bigfoot, excite, hotmail, and yahoo email accounts to post in the For Sale forums.

Alternatives are the following: gmail.com, college/university email accounts, email.com, mail.com, netscape.net.

AOL ISP and Email should seriously be banned.

What!? Ban people using AOL from posting in the Buy & Sell forum? I hate AOL too, but that's taking it too far!

Ban people using university email accounts!? That would make it really easy to track down an offender.

Damn! I'm sorry for the guys that got ripped off :( . GUys, I think "1_smack_for_2"'s suggestion has merit. Allow .edu and .org/.net and non-commercial email addresses only. As a counter to that though, I think this is the only bad trader we have on CDRLabs.com, and narrowing the email addresses down to non-commercial ones only because of this one guy is overkill. Thoughts?
