Hyundai DVD Media

Postby aviationwiz on Tue Aug 31, 2004 7:04 pm

Just got home, and I have the codes. Got 8x DVD+R & 8x DVD-R.

Everything about these discs is a rip from Memorex, the box art, the packaging type, even the labels on top of the disc.

8x DVD+R (They do 12x):

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc Type : [DVD+R]
Manufacturer ID : [YUDEN000]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Media Type ID : [T02]
Product Revision : [Not Specified]
Disc Application Code : [General Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4,482.6MB = 4.38GB (4.70GB)]

8x DVD-R:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc Type : [DVD-R]
Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]

Scans later.

You mean everything's a rip from Memorex except they use quality media, right? ;)

(sounds nice-- too bad they'll probably switch suppliers just as people start to want to buy the stuff!)

Does the packaging say "Made in Japan" ?????

By the way... why the heck did you make another thread for the identical topic?

Actually, it doesn't say where it's made on the packaging from what I could see.

Also, I made a new thread because I felt like it.

You guys will have to wait until this afternoon it looks like. About 3 power surges last night kept me offline, dunno what the heck was going on, hopefully my PX-712A isn't fried.

There is no saying these are actually real TY media.

Could be made by any of the other companies like OptoDisc or Gigastorage who are using the TY media codes on their media.

No, if it was Optodisc I would know about it. Also, it wouldn't burn on the PX-712a... the same goes with Gigastorage, and any other chines company (not the "I would know" part, but the "wouldn't burn on PX-712a" part...).

I'd say it's genuine. Actually, my own cost on Taiyo Yuden 8x media just dropped dramatically, so this Hyundai price is quite reasonable. Sadly, it also means that the price I paid for it is a bit higher then my own cost all of a sudden :o but hey, them's the breaks right?

hrm... maybe I should have waited for the scans before opening my mouth?

I guess I just assumed that Aviationwiz would have screamed if they sucked, and since he's had them for a day or two now I just assumed one was burned already.

Stay away from this media, it does not play on any set-top players.

That is the DVD+R & DVD-R.

Yep that's the 4x -R media. For 4x +R media you can also find it with infosmart code. Which is the actuall manufacturer of the media.
It seems while infosmart abuuse TY code for the 8x, they did license the SKC code for the 4x DVD-R.
Still all media is of very poor quality.
However there is one thing this media might be excellent for that is if it's supported it's seeing how goot Plextor/TY autostrategy really is.
So if there is anyone stupid enough to buy a PX-716 and Hyundai 8x media ?

Would be the ultamite test for plextor/ty to proof that autostrategy really works. Then again I think it's possible that infosmart made such crap media that even the best burners can not burn it decent. (I said decent not good since that allready is to much!!):D
