sony dru710a results question

Postby miccha81 on Sun Jan 09, 2005 6:16 pm

I got this drive, and burned some normal xvid files onto a ridata 4x dvd+r disc. One of the files turned out to be different than the original file, using a crc checker, but it seems that the kprobe scan is fine. I'm not too worried, since the files still play even with a little bit of an error in them, but just wondering why it would burn different data onto the disc. I don't know whether to consider this a bad burn or not.

Don't have anywhere to put the kprobe scan, but here's the results
scanned with the dru710a, by03 firmware

Disc: DVD+R RICOHJPNR01
Speed: 4x
PI/PIF: 8/1
Errors: 0
PI Max=11, Average=1.06, Total=18234
PIF Max=2, Average=0.07, Total=1197

I also have this drive and have been using Ridata 4x DVD-R. All my discs seem to play fine. I have been doing video and burning DVDs for a couple of years but am new to tools like kprobe but am going to start using them.

There is a little confusion over what is the latest FW for this drive. See this thread where so of us have been trying to find out what is going on. I started with BY02 but updated to BYX2 right away and never tried BY03 since it did not seem to ever be posted on the site.

Another disc I burned, this time all the files matched the originals

Disc: DVD+R RICOHJPNR01
Speed: 4x
PI/PIF: 8/1
Errors: 0
PI Max=11, Average=1.33, Total=22009
PIF Max=4, Average=0.17, Total=2893

These are good results right?

Usually it's a comon sence (don't hask me how it was achived cause i just assumed that it was) that you have a good burn when the max PIE is less than 280.
This 280 barrier is flexible, it could be a little heiher or a little lower depending on who is judging and what is judging.

So these would be considered good? I don't understand why it would burn the wrong data though.
