Media sales starting tomorrow 01-16-2005

Postby Jim on Sat Jan 15, 2005 1:20 pm

The standard sales price for media in the USA appears to have settled at 40 cents per disc for all grades. Some sales are better. Anything with a mail in rebate or crap media has been skipped.

Best Buy
----------
Fuji 8x 50 pack - and + for $19.99 (Look for Made in Japan and get Taiyo Yuden)
Verbatim Digital Movie 25 pack - and + for $12.99 (Likely 4x and MCC)

Office Depot
--------------
Maxell, Memorex, and Phillips 15 pack - and + for $4.99 (Look for Made in Japan Maxell)

CompUSA
------------
Memorex 50 pack 8X - and + for $19.99
Memorex 25 pack DVD+RW for $9.99 (2.4x)

K-Mart
--------
Imation 15 pack - and + for $4.99 (Could be Ricoh, MCC, Fujifilm, or CMC)

Staples
---------
HP 50 pack - and + for $17.94 (Could be CMC, MCC, or Phillips)

OfficeMax
-----------
HP 8x 50 pack + and 25 pack + (Likely CMC)
100 pack of no name stuff for $29.99 (Likely Princo or CMC)

The best deal is the Maxell at Office Depot if you can find Made in Japan spindles (33 cents a disc) followed by the Fuji at BB if you can find Made in Japan spindles.

Thanks Jim. Those Maxell -R disks work great in my NEC 3500 and play well in my standalone.

The 15 pack spindles will likely be 4x. The MIJ DVD+R 4x is YUDEN000T01 unless some RICOHJPNR01 were actually made in japan too.

I went to Office Depot this morning and picked up 3 spindles of the Maxell -R media. They are 8x made in Japan. Many thanks to Jim for his posting.

If anyone still has the Maxell 8x -R media by them, could you pick me up 3-4 spindles of it? My local OD only had the +R media left. If you do, I'll let you have your way with JamieW.

Does anyone have the media id for the CompUsa Memorex 25 pack DVD+RW for $9.99 (2.4x)?

Much appreciated...

It could be a variety of ID's. You'll have to check your local store and see. I bought some from there a few weeks ago for the same price. It is 2.4x and if the package says Made in India it is MBIPG101. If could also be CMCMAGW01, INFODISCA01, or RICOHJPNW01.

Okay, I've been working day and night all week and need to get out. No promises, but I'll see if there are any at my local Office Depot. But before I go, let me get this straight: You want 3 or 4 of the 15-disc spindles of made-in-Japan Maxell DVD-R, rated 8x. Like this but should be 8x and on sale for $4.99. Is it only the made-in-Japan version that you want, or if they have another version would that be okay too?

There's really no way to tell for sure what it is then. Perhaps someone has found a trick counting the number or type or spindle spacers?

Jim

PS: The OfficeDepot I checked out only had 4X Maxell DVD-R MIJ.

Sorry Ian. No luck. The shelves were bare. I blame the Office Depot employees. They put up two huge orange signs highlighting the sale so that every passing customer would snap up a spindle. :x

Obviously, I should have looked earlier in the week. Oh well, for what it is worth my local Staples didn't have any of Staples' on-sale media either.
