When do you think we will see more drives taking advantage of the Serial ATA interface?

I am looking forward to drives from the mainstream producers like LG, NEC, Mitsumi, etc.

The Plextor PX-712SA looks nice but its expensive and is outgunned feature wise by lower priced drives capable of DL recording and 16x speeds.

BenQ, MSI and others announced a bunch last year, but they never shipped. I have a feeling they're waiting for better chipset support. If you didn't know, a lot of SATA chipsets don't support ATAPI drives very well.

Advantage of what difference? There is absolutely NOTHING a SATA interface could provide an advantage for compared a PATA optical drive.

haha yeah less clutter, cleaner looking case for me thats more important

my msi seems to be finicky with cd burning and my nforce chipset

but all i use it for is to rip dvd movies, cd burning i can do from pioneer 108 drive

anything longer then 24" on SATA cables? just put my 2 UV reactive SATA cables in today, they were 24"

Advantages?

I was thinking as others mentioned, thinner cables, single channel support, less CPU overhead.

The migration from PATA interface is inevitable, I was just curious as to when this migration will occur. In the graphics market the push to PCI Express is on. New graphic cards in AGP versions have still yet to appear, eg. Radeon X850 Line.
