CDRLabs Demographics

Okay, I'll probably get fewer responses than the number of categories I've created, but, what the heck... :)

What kind of readers/contributers haunt these forums?

cfitz

P.S. No offense intended in the poll category breakdowns - either in how they are orderd or the ranges they encompass. :o

<edit - added category for women to record their presence without revealing any age information>

Me too. It only takes an instant.

So far the results aren't too surprising. But, there may be some self-selection going on here. Perhaps only 20-39 year old males bother to look at posts in the Beer Garden and take the time to respond to polls. Admittedly this poll is very unscientific, but I'd still like to see as many responses as possible. I'm pretty certain we have at least one woman and one older fellow on these forums.

Any guesses on how many females actually visit CDRLabs? Do we have any female members?

No guesses. I suspect not many. I once asked one of my female friends to check one of my posts on this forum, and her reaction in general was "Yuck! Too many boys and their toys!" To be truthful, that is one, but not the only, reason I started this poll.

There is at least on person who posts on these forums that I suspect to be a woman, but I won't reveal who on the chance that she would rather not be known for being a woman and would rather be known for being a CDR expert.

I have always wondered the samething about a particular person too who post in these forums. I'm not exactly sure if the person is male or female, but this individual always provide some nice and useful CDR info. It's just some of the things they have posted, commented, or said that makes me kinda think this person could be a female.
Cfitz, maybe we're thinking about the same person here.

Well, I can happily say that threshold has been reached... Can we go for twice as many responses as categories? :D

Well, its been a pretty good turnout for this poll. I'm just a little disappointed that no women or older members chose to be counted, even though I think we have some in our midst and welcome their participation. Overall I think this poll probably reflects the CDRLabs membership pretty accurately. At least it squares with my perceptions... :)

Now, for all the American CDRLabs readers out there, please remember to go out and vote tomorrow in a real poll! :D

i have to disagree.
twice as many votes as categories is not enough.
a general rule of thumb from statistics - the golden number is 30. you must have a sample of at least 30 before a distrubution starts to behave like a normal distribution (normal - in the statistical sense of a Normal distribtion). and here, since there are 10 categories, should be even more.

i must say i'm disappointed so few voted. considering the size of the regular population of these forums.

i'm also surprised, i thought there would be more younger people than appears from the poll (of course the poll may not be representative).

Oh, I was never expecting any sort of real statistical validity from this poll, particularly since it is self-selecting. This is the Beer Garden after all. I guess it isn't a surprise, though, that with a user name of "dodecahedron" and a matching avatar to boot, you would have higher standards. :)

And although I also hoped to see a lot more votes, I'm not going to complain about the actual number this poll did receive. Compared to the "turnout" for other polls run here and my expectations going into this, I'd say this poll didn't do too badly. And I'm appreciative of those who did take a moment to vote. Of course, the poll is still open, so anyone else who wishes to vote can still do so.

i must admit, i've never checked the "turnout" in other polls here.
i just looked at the results, never noticed the number of votes.

so i guess this poll did OK.
and like you said, the results were more or less predictable...

i'm still hoping, though, some more will vote...

Hey, the poll is still collecting votes. :D Thanks all! And the 20-29 year olds have pulled even with the 30-39 year olds. What does it mean? 20-29 year olds are slower to vote?

I think we overlooked one crucial fact that might be causing this less than expected outcome: how often do women willingly reveal their age? Maybe it should just be one category for women, without mentioning age...

Hey great! The votes continue to trickle in, and we now have responses for every age group in the male category. But still nothing in the female category. :( I know there are some women out there. Maybe Socheat was right... I'll try adding an age-not-specified category for the women.

LOL, I was just snooping around :D I bumped the count up for the over forty crowd :-({|=

Lots of good info in those old threads. Besides all the tech talk I learned a little about the folks that have been here since the early days. They're good people, very good people. =D>

Funny, I was about to post that the poll option was not showing up, even though I certainly knew I hadn't answered this poll (at least not recently).

I then realized the thread was several years old and that I had answered a year or two ago...
